During the morning they were given a presentation about student life, which discussed the importance of choosing the right course and university, as well as the financial aspects of university life and the help and assistance available.

Students were then given a tour of the campus including halls of residence, library and lecture theatres by student ambassadors who spoke about their own experiences at DMU. Our students then had lunch in the university restaurant.

In the afternoon there was an opportunity to experience a lecture. They could choose from; Psychology and how the mind works, English language - the history of words or the History of Film where they looked at old archive film material and memorabilia to see what it told them about history and the media.

Assistant Director of Sixth Form Mr Dave Clarke said, ‘The day was extremely useful for students either wanting or thinking about going to university so they could experience exactly what the campus looks like, the feel of the place and it could alleviate some of their fears of leaving home and having to be independent. The visit showed that there are a lot of support mechanisms at university for students.’

Year 12 student Joel Wallis said, ‘It was a good experience. We got to see the campus and had information about budgeting and how to change courses if you aren’t happy. I want to go to university anyway but the visit would help other students considering going to university.’
