  • Auditions for Grease the musical

    Students from all years are invited to audition for the main roles in Grease the musical, a whole school production that will take place in May.

    Rehearsals are scheduled to take place up to three times a week for main roles and twice a week for ensemble performers. Main roles include; Danny, Sandy, Kenickie, Frenchie, Miss Lynch, Patty Simcox, Eugene Florczk, Jan, Marty, Betty, Rizzo, Doody, Roger, Sonny Latierri, Vince, Johnny, Cha-Cha and Teen Angel.

  • Brooke Weston choir sings at local residential home

    Local residential home Willbrook House invited students from Brooke Weston's choir to sing a selection of Christmas songs for the staff and residents of the home.

  • Network Rail headquarters trip

    Following the Engineering week students participated in at the start of the month, where Network Rail led STEM days (science, technology, engineering and maths) at ten schools across the region, four students, Imogen Lincoln, Matthew Brown, Tate Eppy and Amelia Sulch along with science teacher Miss Reynolds were invited to visit their headquarters in Milton Keynes for an experience day.

    The four students were chosen for being particularly engaged and working well as a group and were amongst eight other schools from the midlands taking part in the day.

  • BW and CTS students collaborate in theatrical workshop

    Students are incorporating techniques they learned in a theatrical workshop into practical work for their GCSE coursework. Students from Brooke Weston and Corby Technical School had a workshop with renowned theatre group Frantic Assembly.

  • High achieving students visit Cambridge college

    Two groups of high achieving students from Years 10 and 11 visited Pembroke College Cambridge for an introduction to university life.

    They met current undergraduates, toured the college and visited Sedgwick Museum. It was useful for those who aspire to study at Oxbridge and was a great way to boost their knowledge of what university study entails..

  • Students take part in Tomorrow’s Engineers Week

    Year 9 students took on practical challenges including building bridges out of paper and level crossings from Lego during a STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) day run as part of Tomorrow’s Engineers Week.

    This is a nationwide initiative where companies from across the country visit schools to set challenges and practical activities. Network Rail led STEM days at ten schools across the region and students from each will visit their headquarters in Milton Keynes later this month for more challenges, including a programming session on level crossing control.

  • Iceland trip

    As part of a national initiative to increase awareness of STEM careers, science teacher, Ms Reynolds, recently took part in a trip to Iceland.

    Organised by the National Science Learning Centre, 15 teachers nationwide applied to go to Iceland to learn about its diverse landscapes and provide their students with varying contexts when teaching.

    During the trip they took part in a 185-mile golden circle tour, when they experienced waterfalls, lava fields, volcanoes and geysers, where the power of the water and steam erupting from the ground due to the extreme heat is incredible.

  • Students dance at Sadler’s Wells

    Three of our students recently took part in a competition at the iconic Sadler’s Wells theatre with one of their teams winning a title in the hard-fought contest.

    Charlotte Smith, Cameron Pickering and Caoimhe Magee all perform with Starlight Dance & Musical Theatre School. Several of its teams took part in the Mardi Gras dance competition at Sadler’s Wells where around 60 teams compete in different categories. Caoimhe was delighted when her team came third:

  • Fairthorne 2016

    Brooke Weston students had a great team building residential at Fairthorne Manor with a wide range of sports and evening activities. Nearly the entire cohort of students attended the four-day trip to Southampton. It was a fun and interactive way of tutor groups to bond and spend time with their tutors.

    Two Year 8 students got to grips with a police speed gun during a recent driving awareness initiative aimed at cutting road deaths. Project Edward is an acronym for European Day Without a Road Death.

  • Students see butchery demonstration

    Published 15/09/16

    Our Year 9 students saw a butchery demonstration and heard about careers within the food industry during a talk by an expert from Peterborough-based Stilton Butchers.

    The session was an introduction to their food and nutrition studies and, as well as being shown how to portion a chicken, the students learned about the best cuts of beef for burgers plus saw how the professionals minced meat, added seasonings and used a press to transform them into commercial burgers.
