Alix chosen to assist High Sheriff of Northamptonshire

Congratulations to Alix Kemp from Year 9 who has been chosen to be a cadet representative to attend functions with Nicholas Robertson, the High Sheriff of Northamptonshire.

High Sheriffs represent the Sovereign in their counties on matters relating to the Judiciary and the maintenance of law and order and, apart from the Monarchy, the office of High Sheriff is the oldest in the country with origins traceable to Saxon times.

High Sheriffs have a particular role in supporting the Judiciary and take a special interest in the activities of the police, prison and probation services.

Alix has been a Northamptonshire emergency services cadet and was nominated for the role by her sergeant. She said: ‘Three people were nominated in Northamptonshire and I was chosen. I was nominated because of my experience with cadets and good time management.'

She has been a cadet since September: ‘You learn about the ambulance, police and fire services and I wanted to join as I would like to be a police officer. I go one night every week. My favourite thing is learning about law enforcement and the different types of laws. We learn about things like knife crime and we have also visited Kettering Fire Station and were able to use the hoses.

‘In this new role I will be going to different events with the High Sheriff, so I will be representing the cadets and trying to make the voices of young people heard. I haven’t met the High Sheriff but I am really looking forward to it. The events will take place in the evening so it doesn’t interfere with my school work. It is a little bit scary because it is unknown, however I am very excited and my friends are very happy for me. I attend cadets regularly and I am confident and excited to start. I am looking forward to all of it and it will help me with my career as I move forward.’
