Year 7 receive a free book for DEAR Literacy initiative
Our Year 7 students have each received a free book, as part of an ongoing literacy initiative.
The students were presented with a book on their first day at Brooke Weston Academy. They will use them in their DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) times, including at tutor time.
Literacy co-ordinator Lauren Fitzjohn said, ‘We want to empower all our students at Brooke Weston Academy and arming them with a book on their first day paves the way for literacy success. We teach our students to appreciate the written and spoken word, and how powerful they can be. In addition to DEAL time we encourage students to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each day – exposing them to new vocabulary, cultural capital and supporting empathy and communication skills.’
