Well done to the young artists at Brooke Weston Academy whose work made the top three in Brooke Weston Academy’s annual Christmas card competition.
More than 50 students submitted entries, and the winning one will be the Academy’s official Christmas card. This year Year 7 student Ariana Jaunosane’s delicately shaded pencil drawings of a festive bauble and Father Christmas (both right) were chosen as the overall winner, while Year 8 students Poppy Johnson and Maddie Jennings’s artwork were second and third respectively.
Art teacher Charlotte Asprey said: ‘Students could submit art in any media. The art department chose the top 10, whittle it down to five and then Principal Shaun Strydom chose the top three finalists. All were of a lovely standard and Ariana, Poppy and Maddie have done a great job.’
Ariane said: ‘Art is one of my favourite lessons so I am pleased to have won!’
Poppy, who took her inspiration from the style of the Snowman and the Snowdog said: ‘I looked up some ideas before starting and I really like those Christmas movies so I wanted to do something in that style.’
Maddie decided to do a festive tree and fireplace. She said: ‘I like art so it is great for my entry to have been one of those chosen.’ Each received chocolates as a prize.
