Year 8 students at Brooke Weston Academy are making striking geometric masks, inspired by the artwork of Kimmy Cantrell.
Teacher Charlotte Asprey demonstrated how to roll out a clay slab to form the background, before students cut out and added the facial features. The finished pieces will be fired and finished with acrylic paints before being displayed.
She said: ‘This is a great project for students to learn different techniques, manipulating the clay and working to a design. It builds on their knowledge they acquired last year and they have been very creative with their designs. We will be expanding their skills with this medium as our GCSE students have the opportunity to use potters’ wheels, a process which looks easy, but is quite a complex operation!’
