BWA host Governor Training event

Brooke Weston Academy hosted 40 Governors from across the Brooke Weston Trust schools for an intensive day of training and development, including whole cohort sessions and more informal afternoon workshops, one led by Principal Pete Kirkbride.

The event began with a welcome from our CEO, Dr Andrew Campbell before Governors had an update on outcomes for last academic year and priorities for this year and beyond. Senior Education Welfare and Safeguarding office Martine Boyd gave a safeguarding and child protection briefing which was followed by a performance data briefing by Executive Principals Anne Hill and Leyton Smith.

After lunch governors could attend a series of workshops on topics including Ofsted Preparation, SEN Training and Pupil Premium, which was delivered by Mr Kirkbride. The day was an opportunity for our Governors to meet their opposite numbers from others schools, network and share best practice as well as ensuring that all documentation and training was in place.

Executive Officer Anna Trott said: ‘Thank you to all the Governors that gave up their Saturday to attend, as well as the Senior Trust staff who delivered briefings or led workshops as well as Brooke Weston Academy for hosting. This training enabled us to ensure that all our Governors are fully informed of the aims and ambitions of the Trust, as well as complying with all the latest legislation surrounding Governance issues. Effective Governance is a key part of our organisation and they offer support and challenge to our staff and schools and their contribution, individually and corporately, is greatly appreciated.’
