Students in Years 9 and 10 engage in a day full of learning and interaction
Some of our students in Year 9 and 10 had the opportunity to attend the North Northants' Preparing for Adulthood Jamboree. Hosted by the SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (IASS) at the John Lowther Scout Centre in Kettering, this event was designed to equip our young learners with essential skills, knowledge, and confidence as they embark on their journey towards adulthood.
The day was packed with interactive workshops, each tailored to address different aspects of adult life:
- Workshop 1: Education and Employment
Students explored post-16 education and employment opportunities, gaining insights into various career paths and educational routes. - Workshop 2: Independent Living
This session featured community-based activities, helping students understand the importance of independence and self-sufficiency. - Workshop 3: Social Participation and Community Involvement
Focused on fostering relationships, this workshop included team-building activities such as obstacle courses, boulder walls, and pedal go-karts, encouraging students to work together and build strong community ties. - Workshop 4: Health and Well-being
Students learnt about healthy foods and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, ensuring they are well-prepared to take care of their physical and mental health.
The day concluded with a spectacular Silent Disco, where students danced to hits from across the decades, celebrating their newfound knowledge and skills in a fun and engaging way.
SEND Teaching Assistant, Mr English, said, ‘This event was a great opportunity for our students to learn new things that will help them as they transition into adulthood. We are excited to see how this conference will positively affect their future goals and aspirations.’
