Celebrating reading excellence: Top performers receive prizes
Brooke Weston Academy hosted its first Readathon in the week leading up to ‘Reading Week’ and our ‘World Book Day’. Year 7 and 8 students were set the challenge to read for as many minutes as they could to add to their ‘Reading miles’.
Our Readathon was a huge success, with Year 7 and 8 students collectively adding an impressive 8336 minutes of reading in just one week, equivalent to an exceptional 139 hours!
To celebrate their exceptional performance, the top readers were awarded books and book vouchers for them to spend on more books, so they can keep adding to their reading miles.
Here are some of our top performers:
- Frederic Borovickij – Top reader with 1223 minutes
- Ridhwan Hussain – Second place with 780 minutes
- Amelia Briffa – Third place with 735 minutes
- Tyra Simeon – Fourth place with 732 minutes
- Sylvie Gillespie – Fifth place with 442 minutes
- Shiloh Fernando – Sixth place with 337 minutes
Literacy Coordinator Mrs Fitzjohn said, ‘ We are so proud of how committed years 7 and 8 were in their reading and can’t wait to host the next Readathon.’
