RAF Air Cadet Training

Students in the RAF Air Cadets get hands-on flying experience

Recently, Year 11 student Fin Mullins, Year 10 student Innocent Garirayai, and Year 9 students Elliot Kennedy and Harry Ambery, had the fantastic opportunity to attend a rare experience of a flying and gliding activity at RAF Wittering, with the Royal Air Force (RAF) Air Cadets.

Participation in the RAF Air Cadets program is more than just an exciting adventure; it is a structured educational journey. Cadets use this flying experience to further their aviation knowledge and progress through a syllabus of learning. This can lead to them taking on more in-depth courses, developing an interest in aviation and culminate in the award of a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Aviation. Many cadets also go on to pursue careers in aviation, inspired by their attendance to a flying experience.

Elliot said, ‘It was an amazing experience. When we were in the air, I got to see and do things I never thought I would be doing, like doing aerobatics; loop the loop and stool turns and barrel rolls. At one point, I got to take control of the plane and the pilot showed me how to land and take off. He was really helpful in guiding me during the flying experience. I would recommend everyone has a go.'
