Year 9 students hear from a student panel to support their option choices
Brooke Weston Academy recently hosted a Careers Student Panel to assist our Year 9 students in making informed decisions about their GCSE options. The event featured a group of students from Years 10 to 13, who shared their experiences and insights.
Assistant Principal, Jonathan Browne, opened the session with an overview of Labour Market Information, highlighting the skills most valued by employers. This was followed by a Careers Q&A session led by Amber Colquhoun, Director of Digital Strategy, Careers & Work-Related Learning.
The student panel provided insights into their experiences with GCSE and A-Level subjects and discussed their ambitions for Post-16 and Post-18 education. This session allowed Year 9 students to reflect on their aspirations while their peers participated in a work-shadowing day. The event complemented recent assemblies by Heads of Departments, which covered course content, assessment types, and progression for all option subjects.
Miss Colquhoun said, ‘Our Year 9 students listened attentively and asked insightful questions. The student panel members were articulate and provided valuable advice on making informed decisions. Our Year 9 continue to explore the option subjects before making their GCSE choices later in the year. Well done to our student panel, their contributions were greatly appreciated and made the event a great success!’
