Winners of the Library Book Fair ‘Design a Book Cover’ competition announced
Congratulations to Tyra Simeon Year 8 and Year 7 students Cara Grace and Jan Fiedor, whose book covers all won a prize in the Library Book Fair ‘Design a Book Cover’ competition.
Students from Years 7 and 8 were invited to design a book cover for a chance to win a book of their choice from the Library Scholastic Book Fair. The covers could be for a book they have read or one they created themselves. The only criteria were that the cover needed to be colourful, intriguing and eye-catching.
Cara Grace and Jan Fiedor both invented book titles and designed covers along with promotional blurbs. Cara drew inspiration from her friend Nicol. She said, ‘My friend Nicol had entered the competition, and I decided to write a story about the sister of her main character and then came up with the title The Ghost Girl.’
Jan said, ‘I got the inspiration for my title and cover from the Cobra Kai series on Netflix. I designed my character first and then worked on the story for the blurb.’
Tyra chose to redesign the cover of The Maze Runner by James Dashner. She said, ‘I enjoyed reading it but felt I could design a better cover.’
Head of Art, Charlotte Marriot, judged the competition and said ‘Well done to all three of the winners and to all the creative students who participated!’
