Books handed out to Year 7 as part of the Bookbuzz programme
Christmas came early to Brooke Weston Academy as all Year 7 students received a free book from the Library as part of the 2024 Bookbuzz programme. Bookbuzz is a reading initiative by Book Trust, a children’s reading charity, that supports schools to encourage reading for pleasure and develop a whole school reading culture.
Students had the opportunity to choose their own book from a selection of 16 titles to take home and keep, each carefully chosen by a panel of experts to ensure quality and suitability.
A special thank you to IEC student Wendy Ako Tarh (Y12), who carefully wrapped 180 books with the help of DofE volunteer Willow Young (Y11) and Assistant Librarian Debbie Fraser. Their efforts ensured that each book was beautifully presented, adding to the festive spirit.
The most popular title amongst the students this year was ‘Murder at Snowfall’ by Jennifer Fleur Hitchcock, a perfect choice for those who enjoy an atmospheric and intriguing murder mystery.
Librarian Wendy Mann said ‘The Bookbuzz programme has been a tradition at Brooke Weston Academy for many years, and it continues to inspire a love for reading amongst our students. Being able to give the book as a gift to all the Year 7 students is something really special, and it helps to encourage a positive attitude towards reading.’
All the Bookbuzz books are available to borrow from the Library, and a competition will be launched next term for Year 7 students to write a review on their chosen title where the winners will have the chance to receive more Bookbuzz titles.
