Students enjoy a variety of extra-curricular activities
Our students have been enjoying a variety of engaging extra-curricular activities as part of the elective provision during Term 2 at Brooke Weston Academy.
Year 8 First Aid
Brooke Weston Academy welcomed former student Mercedes Britton and her colleague Melissa Sturgess, both dedicated volunteers with the North Northants Community First Responders (NNCFR) to equip our Year 8 students with essential life-saving skills. The interactive nature of the training allowed students to engage actively, learning to recognise the signs and symptoms of medical emergencies.
Year 8 and Year 9
Bite Back School Food Champions
Our School Food Champions in Years 8 and 9 teamed up with our wonderful Sixth Form mentors to create some stunning Christmas crudité wreaths and vegetable Christmas trees to promote the use of fruit and vegetables and encourage others to eat their ‘5 a day’. Students started off by designing their festive masterpieces, exploring a variety of knife skills and vegetable cutting techniques. They then paired up to bring their creative visions to life. Following this, they all enjoyed the delicious leftovers with hummus to reduce food waste.
KJ Golf Academy
Students in Year 8 and Year 9 have been taking part in the beginner’s Golf elective, implementing all the fundamental skills needed in golf, like putting, chipping and pitching, as well as developing physical skills like speed, strength and power.
Year 10 Combined Cadet Force (CCF)
Our Year 10 cadets had the exciting opportunity to learn about weaponry, with rifles for hands-on experience. They were introduced to the various components of a weapon, essential safety procedures before and after handling, and had the chance to familiarise themselves by physically handling the equipment. The weapon they trained with is the Scorpio air rifle, which they will later be assessed on for precision firing.
Careers and Electives Lead, Amber Colquhoun said, ‘These activities not only provide our students with valuable skills and experiences but also foster a sense of community and teamwork. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing them continue to grow and excel in their chosen electives.’
