CCF students lead Remembrance Day assemblies at BWA
Brooke Weston Academy held Remembrance Day assemblies to commemorate all those affected by conflict and war. After an introduction from Principal Clare Haworth, the BWA students who are part of The Brooke Weston Trust Combined Cadet Force (CCF), proudly marched into the Weston Theatre showcasing their discipline and dedication.
The cadets took the lead in the assembly, delivering a special presentation that highlighted the significance of Remembrance Day. They explained the tradition of wearing red poppies, a symbol of remembrance and hope, and spoke about the Cenotaph in London, a war memorial that serves as the focal point for the National Service of Remembrance each November.
A notable part of the presentation was the tribute to Alan Turing, the renowned computer pioneer. The cadets shared Turing's crucial role in World War Two, particularly his work in cracking the Enigma Code used by the German military. This achievement not only shortened the war but also saved countless lives.
The assembly included a minute's silence, observed after the playing of the poignant tune 'The Last Post.’ During this time, the cadets stood to attention and saluted, creating a powerful and moving moment for all in attendance.
Poppies were available at BWA in exchange for a donation, and we would like to thank everybody who purchased one, with all donations going directly towards helping the Armed Forces community.
Well done to all those involved in preparing and presenting such an important and informative assembly.
