BWA - Microsoft Showcase School 2024-2025

BWA celebrates being recognised as a Microsoft Showcase School for the second consecutive year

We are thrilled to announce that Brooke Weston Academy has, for the second consecutive year, been recognised as a Microsoft Showcase School.

This prestigious renewal is awarded to a select group of schools worldwide that are leading the way in educational innovation and transformation. We are proud to be acknowledged for our ongoing commitment to shaping 21st-century learners.

This recognition is a testament to the dedication, innovation, and excellence of our staff in supporting both students and colleagues to become 21st-century learners.

All BWA teaching staff have now completed the Educator learning journey, which is an integral part of new teaching staff inductions and ongoing professional development. This year, our support staff also completed the Educator Pathway to upskill with Microsoft tools within the education setting.

In addition to this, thirty-five staff members (both in teaching and non-teaching roles) have completed the Microsoft Advanced Educator learning journey over the past two years. Their expertise ensures that our students receive a world-class education that prepares them for the future.

BWA staff members - Sophie Jackson, Valencia Lavia, Jamie Jones, Maxime Jabado, Josh Bonnar, Marc Begley, and Beth Philip - are Microsoft Certified Educators. This achievement highlights their dedication to staying at the forefront of educational technology to utilise Microsoft tools to enhance teaching and learning, as well as to improve systems and processes, and reduce workload.

Josh Bonnar, HR Administrator, said, ‘I have always had a keen interest in technology and using this to improve work processes. Through becoming a Microsoft Certified Educator, I have been able to embed new ways of working in my day-to-day practice, reducing time spent on small administrative tasks which I try to share with colleagues wherever possible. I have recently delivered a training session to Support Staff on the use of Microsoft Copilot & AI, which was well received, and I hope to deliver more sessions in the future to help bolster Brooke Weston’s showcase school status!“

Maths Teacher, Ignus Fourie, has been successful in becoming a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIEE) this academic year. This award recognises his outstanding contributions to education, systems, and processes, and his innovative approach to teaching.

Director of Digital Strategy, Careers & Work-related Learning, Amber Colquhoun, has also been successfully accepted for a second year as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert.

Amber said, “We are excited to continue on this journey of educational transformation and to be part of an exclusive global community, as a Microsoft Showcase School, celebrated for its contributions to education. We will continue to embed digital technology into our Teaching and Learning CPD and, working in partnership with Thomas Clarkson Academy and BWT, we will expand our Certiport Testing centre with the introduction of Microsoft MOS exams to provide appropriate digital professional development to our support staff. Simultaneously, we will strive for all of our students to become digitally literate in using Microsoft applications, to be aware of the advantages and pitfalls of generative artificial intelligence, as well as having a deep understanding on how to stay safe online.”

These achievements are a testament to the excellence and high calibre of educators at Brooke Weston Academy. Each success reflects the dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence that define our school community of “Ambition for All”.
