Congratulations to Brooke Weston students Kirndeep Dhassi, Lana Green, Seren Devine and Eliza Donnelly who have all had their book reviews published in the latest copy of ‘Teen Titles’, the book review magazine for teenagers.
The reviews were part of the students work from the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway book shadowing event that took place at Brooke Weston in June, where eight students read and assessed books to help determine the 2017 best young adult literature and best illustrated book.
‘Teen Titles’ is published nationwide and gives an honest, unbiased view of the newest young adult fiction and non-fiction books available. Students were each rewarded with a complimentary copy of the magazine to keep for themselves and there are also copies available in the library.
Year 11 student Kirndeep Dhassi had two reviews published, she said ‘I wrote my reviews on ‘Railhead’ by Phillip Reeve and ‘The Smell of Other People’s Houses’ by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock. It was fantastic to have them published because I never really thought I knew how to write a review before and it was tough for me but this has confirmed that perhaps I do know.
‘It was nice to be able to talk about the books and how they developed. I talked about the characters and something that stood out to me from each of the books. My favourite was ‘Railhead’ because it was fantasy based and the author was amazing with his descriptions, which really brought the book to life for me, and I enjoyed it very much.
Librarian Ms Wendy McCabe said ‘It is fantastic that the students have had their book reviews published in Teen Titles. It is read by teenagers and Librarians all over the UK and is a great way to promote books and reading.’
