Swimming With the Stars

Year 8 student spends an inspiring day with Olympic Champion Adam Peaty

Brooke Weston Academy student Daniel Mustata Y8, had the incredible opportunity to participate in a swimming race clinic held at Oundle School Sports Centre, where he was coached by none other than Triple Olympic Champion, Adam Peaty.

The event was part of the Adam Peaty (AP) Race Clinics Summer Tour events teaching young swimmers how to race. The clinic began with a psychology session led by Ed Baxter, who was Adam Peaty’s training partner for 5 years, and the session provided Daniel with valuable insights into the mental aspects of competitive swimming.

Daniel then moved to the pool for a session with Adam Peaty, who demonstrated various drills for breaststroke, giving Daniel a unique perspective on the techniques and dedication required to excel at the highest levels of the sport.

The final session was a land training session where Daniel practised exercises designed to enhance strength and flexibility, highlighting the importance of overall fitness in swimming performance.

The day concluded with a presentation by Adam, who shared his personal journey, including his achievements, challenges, and the dedication it took to become an Olympic champion.

Daniel also had the honour of meeting Adam Peaty for a second time when he attended the ‘Sprint with the Stars’ event in Birmingham which was hosted by Adam. The fastest nine swimmers in each age group progressed from the heats to the Showcase Finals, with Daniel making it to the finals in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke event where he raced against double Olympic medallist Luke Greenbank and Olympic swimmer and British record holder Alexander Cohoon.

Daniel, who only recently took up the sport, joined Corby Swimming Club in 2022, progressing swiftly to reach the Regional squad in March 2024. He was also chosen by the East Midlands Swimming Association to attend the Regional Development Talent Pathway for 2024/2025 and Daniel has set his sights on qualifying for the English National Championships.
