Sixth Formers explore career options
Our Year 12 students had the opportunity to attend a Pharmacy Careers event hosted by Moulton Community Centre in Northampton, to explore career options in the pharmaceutical industry.
The event had representatives from multiple employers of pharmacy professionals, including the local hospitals, primary care (GP practices), community pharmacy and industry who discussed apprenticeship opportunities for undertaking pharmacy technician qualifications. There were also several Universities within the Midlands in attendance who offer the Pharmacy undergraduate (MPharm) degree programme.
The event was the perfect opportunity for our students to speak to both training providers and employers, try out practical exercises, such as clinical skills, and ask the professionals lots of questions.
Year 12 Justin Akoto said, ‘The insight morning has helped me decide upon my alternative course choice to medicine as pharmacy, as medicine is my main objective. It was useful to gain an overview of the course structure from representatives from DMU. The MPharm course sounds well-structured and the approach to assessment being modular does sound appealing.’
Year 12 Muna Okafor said, ‘I learnt about prescribing to patients and the course structure on offer at the University of Leicester as well as the business aspects of pharmacy through discussion with a representative from Pfizer. The world of pharmacy is rather varied, and this is not something I had fully appreciated before attending the insight morning.’
