Women in Construction

Students inspired by successful women in the construction industry

Year 12 students gained an insight into the roles available in the construction industry when they attended the Women in Construction event hosted by construction training experts, TUTs Training, at their flagship training centre in Corby.

Top local employers were in attendance to give our students an insight into the roles they have available and students also heard from a number of women who have made successful careers in the industry. They also had the opportunity to network with industry professionals and experience operating plant machinery supervised by qualified instructors.

Year 12 Michelle Mwarewangepo said, ‘The event really helped to show a woman’s perspective on joining the construction industry at our age. It has broken down some of the barriers I had imagined and made the concept of working in construction more open to me.’

Year 12 Tahia Begum said, ‘It was really enjoyable, and we were encouraged to engage with the speakers. It was beneficial as we learnt more about jobs such as quantity surveying and being a crane operator. Having us go out and operate the excavator was fun and allowed us to take on roles found in this industry. I would recommend future students to go as it empowers women to take on roles in a male-dominated field.’
