Sixth Form students attend sessions on road safety
Keith Millard, Senior Road Safety Officer at Kier Highways, visited Brooke Weston Academy to share the ‘My Pink Trainers’ road safety video with our Year 12 students and to deliver a presentation called ‘First Gear’, for Year 13, which covered attitudes to driving.
Keith was representing the Northamptonshire Safer Roads Alliance (NSRA), a partnership between the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, Northamptonshire Police and Fire and Rescue Service and Kier Highways, who are all committed to improving road safety in Northamptonshire.
Keith said, ‘We have delivered My Pink Trainers to around 2,000 students since the start of this academic year. The Year 13 presentation, First Gear, is a direct follow-on from My Pink Trainers and thank you to Head Student Leader Jack-Brent Thomas, who volunteered to take part in the demonstration showing how alcohol can affect your judgement. Both presentations were very well received, and the students were engaged in the discussions. We provide them with lots of information to allow them to make better-informed choices/decisions when they are out driving or a passenger in a car.
Brooke Weston Academy has been a huge help to us with this project in helping us evaluate/moderate the presentation and the help we received from Post 16 Co-Curriculum Co-Ordinator Mrs Hegarty was invaluable.’
