Mathematics Department
At Brooke Weston Academy we firmly believe that everyone can be a Mathematician. We want to provide every student with the mathematical toolkit and confidence to enable them to thrive in the real world. At the most basic level, we aim to provide all of our students with the numeracy and reasoning skills that will, for example, enable them to get somewhere on time, to pay their bills and to effectively function within their future workplaces. We want to develop Mathematicians who can confidently access and fluently use mathematical concepts in any area of study, for example, the projection of profit margins, how to calculate the concentration of chemical compounds or how to make accurate inferences from a dataset. We want to develop students who act and talk like Mathematicians by asking probing questions, making predictions, testing their hypotheses, and developing arguments to explain their conclusions. Our ultimate aim is to expose our students to the real beauty of mathematics with its infinite possibilities and to develop Mathematicians who can ultimately go on to change the world.
