Recipients of the inaugural STEM recognition awards receive their certificates

A new initiative has been launched by the Science department at Brooke Weston Academy to recognise staff and students for their excellence in STEM subjects.

The awards will be made on a termly basis with staff and students being nominated by heads of department in the STEM subjects; Design Technology, Maths and Science.

The Term 3 staff STEM recognition award went to Design Technology Teacher, Gareth Van Wyk, who received a certificate for his contribution in promoting Engineering; through organising visits from representatives from Red Bull Powertrains and his work in promoting females in STEM activities.

Year 10 student, Dylan Chan, received his certificate for excellence in Maths, and was nominated by Head of Maths, Erin Van Wyk, who said, ‘Dylan has been preparing and delivering maths sessions to our Year 12 and Year 13 mathematicians. He has covered topics beyond the A-level course e.g solving pells equation; plutonic solids; maths behind the Rubik's Cube and what is special about the prime numbers. He is incredibly talented in maths!’
