Year 7 students complete the Library Skills First Award programme
Well done to the Year 7 students who undertook Library Skills training as part of the BWA elective provision this term. The training involved covering the basics, such as learning how to shelve books correctly, including how the Dewey Decimal system works. Students also completed several activities as part of the training, which included, completing a map of the Library; a Library Treasure Hunt; the Dewey game and an online Library quiz.
The thirteen students will join the current team of volunteer Library helpers working on a rota for break, lunchtime and after school. Each student will be assigned a section of the library, which they will be responsible for keeping in order. Additional training will be given to students next term as part of desk duties to issue and return resources.
Librarian Wendy Mann said, ‘Being a student library helper is a great way for the students to provide valuable input into the development of the Library while getting some practical experience in a real working environment. I am grateful to all the volunteers and their help is invaluable in making sure that the Library runs smoothly and at the same time helping raise the profile of the Library amongst their peers.’
