BWA Teacher Becomes an SSAT Leadership Fellow
Congratulations to our Head of Spanish teacher, Olivia Powell, who has been accepted as a Fellow on the prestigious Leadership Legacy Project run by SSAT, the Schools, Students and Teachers network.
Olivia will be part of an impressive group of future education leaders from across the country designated as SSAT Leadership Fellows. Involvement in the programme demonstrates commitment by Brooke Weston Academy and SSAT to developing the next generation of system leaders. Teachers who become Fellows on the Leadership Legacy Project achieve increased leadership responsibilities at an early career stage; through exposure to a wide range of knowledge and information, and the activities undertaken have an impact at classroom and whole school level.
Olivia, who is in her third year of teaching at Brooke Weston Academy, previously worked as a Language Assistant and English teacher in Spain. She completed her teacher training through the Teach First Leadership Development Programme and studied for her PGDE while teaching full time.
She said, ‘I was delighted and proud to be accepted onto the Leadership Legacy Project. I am looking forward to carrying out research and interventions to improve the attainment and progress of our students in an innovative way. I hope to improve outcomes on a wider level in my department and across the school. My focus areas will be looking at literacy and etymology in the curriculum and how to improve outcomes for boys. I feel lucky to be working at a school that continually strives to make improvements and offer the best provision for the community. BWA offers so many opportunities to develop your skills and career, being put forward for this Leadership Legacy Project has made me feel valued as a member of staff.’
