Congratulations to Matt Reay who has been appointed Brooke Weston Academy’s new staff Governor.
He joined the school in November 2017 as a member of the cover team. He loved his time in the classroom so much that he is currently training and will qualify as a history teacher in April.
Matt is used to representing people as he is also a Borough Councillor for Corby’s Lloyds ward, a role he has held since 2015: ‘The secondary school I attended was earmarked for closure and I wanted to know why the decision was being made and who was making it. Over time that has led to me wanting to be part of that decision making process.
‘Working on the cover team here gave me a really good opportunity to understand how different departments work and interact. It was always my intention to train as a teacher and I know at first-hand how important it is for students to have a consistent and high quality education. Having been a member of both support, and now teaching staff, I have an insight into the job role and demands of each. I wanted to become a Governor as, not only am I interested in how key decisions are made, I want to make sure that the reasons for these are filtered down, as well as taking up issues on behalf of my colleagues.
‘Brooke Weston Academy is a great school and a great place to work and I am looking forward to serving and contributing to its continuing success, particularly in these unprecedented times.’
