Year 7 book review winners announced!

Congratulations to Year 7 students Juanita Kwakye, Aarnav Prashanth, and Elsie Sando who won prizes for their outstanding reviews on the books they received at the end of Term 2 as part of the Bookbuzz programme.

Bookbuzz is a reading programme from Book Trust, which supports schools to encourage reading for pleasure and develop a whole school reading culture. The scheme has been running for several years at BWA and in Term 1, Year 7 students had the exciting opportunity to choose a book from a selection of 16 titles to take home and keep. They were then invited to write a review of their chosen book for a chance to win the other 15 titles in this year's Bookbuzz collection.

Juanita emerged as the overall winner, with her insightful review of ‘Quiet Storm’ by Kimberly Whittam, a touching story about anxieties, friendships, and finding one's place in the world. As a reward for her outstanding review, Juanita received 15 Bookbuzz titles!

Aarnav and Elsie were the runners-up, with their reviews of ‘Running Out of Time’ by Simon Fox and ‘Murder at Snowfall’ by Fleur Hitchcock, respectively. Both students received another title from this year’s Bookbuzz list as a prize.

The competition was open to all Year 7 students and was judged by Librarian, Wendy Mann. She said ‘It is fantastic that the students had their own opinions on the books they chose and were able to express and share their thoughts in their book reviews. Congratulations to our winners and all participants for their wonderful contributions’

Key Stage 3 English Lead, James Browning said, ‘I'm incredibly proud of our Year 7 students for their outstanding book reviews. Their creativity and critical thinking skills have truly shone through in this competition.’

All this year’s Bookbuzz titles are available to borrow from the Library. Find out more about the Bookbuzz books here
