For a Better Future is the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2025.
Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is observed annually on January 27th, a day dedicated to remembering the six million Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust, as well as the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
This year holds special significance as it marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp complex, and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia. These milestones serve as poignant reminders of the atrocities of the past and the importance of remembrance and education.
The theme for this year's HMD is ‘For a Better Future’. Thousands of people will come together to learn about the past and take action to create a safer, more inclusive future. This theme encourages us to reflect on the lessons of history and consider how we can contribute to a world free from discrimination and prejudice.
Our school library has curated a special reading list of books on the Holocaust. These books are available to borrow, providing valuable resources for those who wish to deepen their understanding of these historical events.
