Year 13 students awarded certificates from the STEM SMART team at Cambridge

Congratulations to Year 13 students, Theo Rust and Emma Petre, who have been awarded Gold and Silver certificates respectively by the STEM SMART team at Cambridge University. This recognition comes as a result of their active participation in phases 1 and 2 of the STEM SMART programme.

STEM SMART is an initiative by the University of Cambridge, in association with Isaac Physics, aimed at supporting students considering university courses in Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, or Biological Sciences. The programme is designed for students studying A-Levels in Maths and Science.

Theo and Emma have been part of the STEM SMART programme since January last year, as part of their preparation for applying to top universities. To earn their certificates, they engaged with all 35 weeks of the programme so far, which included weekly extra questions that developed problem-solving techniques beyond the A-level requirements. The programme also supported their learning within the syllabus and included weekly online tutorials in each subject. Additionally, they were often required to submit written solutions for marking.

Theo, who is studying A-level Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Chemistry, said, ‘I have found the programme to be very helpful and good for revision purposes; my problem-solving skills have certainly improved over the last year. I would like to go on to study for a Physics and Maths or Natural Sciences degree at university."

Emma, currently studying A-level Maths, Physics, and Psychology, said, ‘The STEM SMART programme has been challenging, but it has definitely helped me with my university applications and given me confidence in my exams. I would like to go on to study Astrophysics or Physics with Philosophy at university.’
