BWA Student Library Assistants complete Library Skills First Award

Congratulations to the Brooke Weston Academy student Library Assistants who have successfully completed their basic library skills training and received their Library Skills First Award certificates from Principal Clare Haworth.

Ten students have completed this initial training and are now set to advance to the Bronze Award. This next phase will involve training on desk duties, including issuing and returning library items.

Librarian Wendy Mann said, ‘Their training covered essential library skills, including understanding the various resources available, their locations, and the Dewey Decimal System for shelving non-fiction books. Starting next term, the students will work on a rota during break, lunchtime, and after school and each student will be responsible for maintaining a specific section of the library.’

Principal Clare Haworth said, ‘The time and commitment these students give to helping in the Library makes a huge difference to its smooth running. We are grateful to all the volunteers; their help is invaluable in ensuring the Library operates efficiently and in raising its profile amongst their peers.’
