Inspiring futures at BWA
Brooke Weston Academy recently had the pleasure of hosting Fran Nicol from the University of Leicester for a series of engaging careers assemblies during week 7. The sessions were attended by students from Year 9 to Year 12, providing them with valuable insights into university life and future career opportunities.
The presentations were both informative and thought-provoking, encouraging students to reflect on their personal interests and aspirations. The talks covered a wide range of topics, from the experience of living away from home to the benefits of joining university societies. This holistic view of university life helped students gain a clearer understanding of what to expect and how to prepare for their future academic journeys.
Alvin Sony Y11 said, ‘It was very good because I know what I can do at Uni of Leicester Post-16. I’m interested in Computer Science, and it offers multiple courses for me to look into and help me find a future job.’
Careers and Electives Lead, Amber Colquhoun said, ‘The presentation was particularly informative for our Year 12 students who will be making their post-18 choices in 2025, as well as students studying their GCSEs and considering post-16 options. It was also very useful for Year 9 who have their GCSE options choices coming up in the Spring Term, as working backwards from entry requirements can help students to make well-informed decisions.’
