BWA Language Leaders welcome Oakley Vale Primary School ‘Little Interpreters’

The Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department at Brooke Weston Academy was delighted to host the new cohort of KS2 ‘Little Interpreters’ from Oakley Vale Primary School as part of our Language Leader elective.

Our students, who are participating in the Language Leader elective, are working towards their Foreign Language Leader Award. This award involves planning and teaching language lessons at local primary schools and is designed to build the skillset and self-belief needed for students to deliver language-based activities to others.

The visit began with a guided tour of BWA, where our Language Leaders proudly showcased our facilities and shared insights about life at BWA. The highlight of the day was the interactive language lesson prepared by our students. They enthusiastically engaged the KS2 ‘Little Interpreters’ in fun and educational activities, sharing their passion for languages and fostering a love for learning amongst the younger students.

Niamh Brennan (Y10) said, ‘We made sure to visit the places in the Academy they most wanted to see during the tour. They were interested in Performing Arts and Science. Some of the science teachers showed the students the labs and let them pose for a picture in goggles. It was a great experience for them.’

Sitha Niroj (Y10) said, ‘The students were very interested in the paintings around the school. They asked a lot of questions, and they were very intrigued. They really liked the library, and they thought it was cool that there were famous people’s names on the classroom doors.’

Lily Robinson (Y8) said, ‘It was fun giving the tour and teaching a short lesson to some of the students. We taught them the colours and played some games, which they enjoyed.’

Eloise Atkins (Y8) said, ‘I liked helping the students to pronounce the words when teaching my lesson with Lily.’

Careers Lead and Teacher of MFL, Amber Colquhoun said, ‘This was a wonderful opportunity for the ‘Little Interpreters’ to experience a secondary school environment and for our Language Leaders to inspire the next generation of language enthusiasts.’
