IT Manager completes the Cransley Hospice charity cycle
RM, IT Manager at Brooke Weston Academy, Ivan Chan, took to the saddle and pedalled his way around the rolling Northamptonshire countryside as part of the Cycle for Cransley 2023 event to raise vital funds for Cransley Hospice, which is celebrating 25 years since it opened.
Cycle for Cransley, now in its 5th year, is a key fundraising event for Cransley Hospice Trust, and they hope to raise £25000 this year. Cransley Hospice looks after people from North Northamptonshire with life-limiting illnesses at their in-patient hospice as well as in patients own homes, providing specialist end-of-life care.
Speaking about his reasons for taking on the challenge, Ivan said, ‘I only started road cycling in April and the event started off as a way to motivate me to actually get out and cycle more as I’d just bought a bike and I didn’t want it to become an ornament.
Raising money for a good cause was an extra bonus but the more people I spoke to about raising money for Cransley Hospice, the more I realised how much they provide for our local community and how many people I know have been helped by them.
I increased my fundraising target twice, initially from £100 to £250, which I reached, so I completed the charity ride a week earlier than intended. I ended up doing 26.5 miles, the weather was nice, not too hot, and because I set off at 7am there wasn’t much traffic either. My furthest ride before this was just under 30 miles. Northamptonshire has many scenic country roads that make cycling a joy.
I have now increased my target to £300 and if I hit the new target, I will do it all again! Thank you so much to all those who have already donated.’
