Congratulations to our Year 13 students who have been appointed as the Brooke Weston Academy student leaders for the coming year.
Head Student Finley, who has ambitions to study Medicine at University and intends to pursue a career in Cardiology, is currently studying Maths, Biology and Chemistry.
He said, ‘I decided to apply for the role of Head Student due to my experience as Year 12 Academic Champion. I enjoyed having an active role in making positive changes to BW that were based on the views of students as well as having a part in the planning and presenting of events and assemblies and I knew I wanted to continue being part of the Student Leadership team here at BW.
‘I was delighted to find out I had been selected and I, and the rest of the student leadership team, will strive to make as many improvements as possible based on the feedback that we receive so that any person in the school can recognise anyone of us as a friendly face who is willing to not only listen to any ideas but also to try our best to act upon them.’
Wellbeing Leader Tanaka, who is studying English, Business and Psychology, said, ‘ My main goal is to create elective sessions that allow students to increase their knowledge of healthy wellbeing through emphasising messages with student voice.'
Tiffany and Tess will be working together, sharing the role of Diversity Leader.
Tiffany is currently studying Maths, Business and Applied Science with aspirations of working in the aviation sector. She said, ‘I feel like this role fits me perfectly for my personality for promoting inclusivity and equality in a group of different nationalities in the school. She said, ‘I hope to inspire younger students to take part in school and extracurricular volunteering activities and I hope to increase students' understanding and knowledge of what different charities do for the surrounding community. If anyone has any suggestions on what charities, activities or events they would like to support and take part in, please feel free to let me know.’
Academic Leader Justin, is studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Psychology and would like to study Medicine at University. He said, ‘I was delighted when I found out I got this role. Transition Leader Sarah is currently studying Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and English literature with aspirations of working as either a medical researcher or working in the forensic field. She said, ‘I decided to apply for transition lead as I joined BW in Year 12 and I wanted to help students transition more easily into BW life, creating a welcoming environment for the new external Year 12 and new Year 7 students to make the transition from their previous school calmer and easier. The ethos at BW helps to create an environment in which everyone is always striving to do their best.’
Inclusion Leader Ellie, who plans to go to university to study Diagnostic Radiography, is currently studying Psychology, Health & Social Care and Applied Science. Careers Leader Jolie Bowman is studying Media, Politics and English Language and plans to study Music, Media and Management at University. She said, ‘ I chose this role because I understand that deciding a path for your future is not a straight forward process and, by combining my knowledge and experience, I hope to not only help students find something they are passionate about but also help guide them on how to achieve lots of different goals.’
Lead of Culture, Ethos & Wellbeing at BWA, Sammy Hallybone, said, ‘We were so impressed by the exceptional calibre of applicants for our student leadership positions this year that we have expanded the leadership team to harness the diverse talents of our students. In addition to the roles of Head Student and Leaders for Diversity, Academic, Charity, and Wellbeing, we are thrilled to announce the creation of three new roles that highlight the unique skill sets within our student body.
‘The Career Leader will collaborate with Ms. Colquhoun to enhance employability, forge stronger industry connections, and broaden access to ambitious career pathways.
‘Our new Transition Leader will work closely with the Sixth Form team to support Year 12 students, as well as with Mr. Browne to ensure Year 7 students smoothly transition into the BWA Way.
‘Finally, the Inclusion Leader will partner with the Success Centre and SEND Student Support teams to ensure that every student, regardless of background or ability, can access the outstanding education that BWA offers.
‘These new positions reflect our commitment to fostering leadership that not only benefits our school community but also prepares our students for success beyond the academy.’
